Learning how to create and format tables is great for creating signs, charts, and other Word documents. In this activity, you will learn how to work with tables.

In this activity, you will practice how to:
- Work with the Drawing Toolbar
- Create and Format Tables.
Lesson
- Open the Hours.doc file.
- Turn on the Show/Hide formatting codes.
- Click before the first paragraph mark under May Hours to position your insertion point. Insert a table that is 3 columns wide by 4 rows high.
- Enter the information in the table as shown below. Do not be concerned about text alignment or formatting at this time. Use correct spelling, spacing, punctuation, and capitalization. Type a.m. and p.m. exactly as shown.
Monday-Thursday 1 p.m. 10 p.m. Friday 1 p.m. 11 p.m. Saturday and holidays 11 a.m. 11 p.m. Sunday NOON 11 p.m. - Use the Table AutoFormat feature to change the inserted table to Table Colorful 2. Under special formats clear the Heading rows check box and the Last column check box.
- Select the table and change the settings to AutoFit to Contents.
- Align left the first column of the table.
- Center the table horizontally between the left and right margins.
- Select and Copy the table. Place the insertion point before the first empty paragraph under Summer Hours and click the Paste button.
- Place the insertion point before the first empty paragraph under Fall Hours and click the Paste button again. The table is now copied to the two locations.
- Change the hours in the table under Summer Hours as shown below.
Monday-Thursday 10 a.m. 10 p.m. Friday 9 a.m. 11 p.m. Saturday and holidays 9 a.m. 11 p.m. Sunday NOON 11 p.m. - Turn off the Drawing Canvas and display the Drawing Toolbar.
- Draw a Line under the first table between the two empty paragraph marks. The line should extend over the length of the table only.
- Change the Line Color to Blue and the Line Style to 2 ¼ pt.
- Copy the Line and then Paste two times. Drag the lines into position under the remaining two tables, similar to the position for the May table.
- Insert a Footer with your Filename to the left side.
- Save your document.
- Print Preview to make a final check of your letter.
- Optional: Print your document for review.
- Close Word.
