Intro to Google Sheets

Google Sheets
Google Sheets is a free web-based spreadsheet program included as part of the Google Wordspce suite of productivity tools which also includes: Gmail, Google Drive, Google Calendar, Google Docs, Google Slides, Google Drawings, Google Forms, Google Sites, and Google Keep. Google Sheets is available as a web application and as a mobile app for iOS and Android devices.

Although not as powerful as Excel in terms of advanced data analysis and manipulation, Sheets can be a perfect alternative for basic data manipulation, team collaboration, and a wide variety of tasks. Some of the things you can do with Sheets include:

  • Create spreadsheets with multiple sheets and tables, sort and filter data, and create pivot tables to summarize and analyze data.
  • Utilize a wide range of built-in formulas and functions that can be used to perform calculations and data analysis.
  • Create charts, graphs, and other visualizations to make your data more understandable.
  • Create budgeting and financial analysis spreadsheets for balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Collaboration with multiple users to work on the same spreadsheet at the same time, and changes are synced in real-time.
  • Use Sheets’ scripting capability (called Google Apps Script) to automate repetitive tasks and workflows.
  • Create forms and collect data from the form submissions  – useful for data collection, surveys, and feedback forms.
  • Integration Sheets with other apps and services, such as Google Forms, Google Maps, and Google Translate, making it easy to work with data from different sources.
