Adding Cards and End Cards to Videos
Adding cards and end cards can be extremely powerful and is probably one of the best ways for you to promote your other videos and playlists – aside from mentioning them in the actual video.
YouTube currently allows up to 5 cards per video giving you a lot of flexibility for marketing your other content.
Step-by-step:
1 Navigate to the YouTube creator studio dashboard.
2 Select the video that you want to work with and click on the edit button below the video.
3 The new window will display the settings panel for your video. This where you can change the title, description, category, thumbnail image, and monetization options.
4 Look at the menu above the video and click on the “End Screen & Annotations” button – this is area where you can add a card to the video or an end card at the end of your video. Rule: Videos must be over 25 seconds long.
NOTE: It’s a little confusing that YouTube still has the word “Annotations” in the button title. YouTube stopped allowing users from adding annotations to new videos a while ago. However, you can still edit videos with existing Annotations – you just can;t add new ones. If you’re new to YouTube, you’re not going to use annotations – you’ll be cards and end screen cards.
5 Click on the Cards section button and decide to add either a card or an end car (they are almost identical).
6 Click on the Add Card drop-down and select one of the options: video or playlist (promote a video or playlist), channel (promote another channel), donation (feature a nonprofit of your choice), Poll (encourage viewers to participate in a poll), or a link (you must be a YouTube partner to enable links).
7 Adjust the slider on where in the video you would like the card to appear. Once a card has been loaded, it will remain overlayed on the video until the end.
