Work With Your Strengths
It is best to create content based on your knowledge and/or passion versus a topic you little about…
- It will easier for you to produce.
- The content will be of better quality.
- Your enthusiasm will be higher (which will be noticeable in the final product).
- You will not experience burn as frequently.
Trying to produce content that you know little about will become overwhelming, and taxing for your resources.
What Type of Content Should You Produce?
It doesn’t matter if your YouTube efforts are marketing or monetization, there are certain types of content that will work no matter the purpose:
• Content that Informs or Educates – This type of content requires you to to have knowledge of your target market or audience.
• Content that Solves Problems – This is the easiest type of content idea. If you know your audience, then you’re aware of the issues that keep them awake at night. If you solve some of those and help them sleep easier – they’ll love you for it.
• Humor or Comfort – There are a lot of full-time YouTube is that make a comfortable living providing humor or comfort content for their audience. People always love to be entertained.
• Content that Surprises – Going the extra step and provide real in-depth coverage of a topic that the average user is unaware of goes a long way towards adding value to your content.
• Emotional Content – If you are able to create content that resonates with viewers emotions, you going to get a lot more engagement with that content. Emotional connections will provide a memorable bond helping your viewers easily remember you.

• You must research your audience and focus on producing content that is relevant to them.
• Be sure to engage your audience and provide real value. Providing resources that are useful to your viewers will make it more likely your viewers will share your content, and tell their family and friends about it, and become your brand ambassadors.
• Always include clear branding. Make sure your viewers know who you are, what products or services you are selling, where they can purchase them, and where they can go for more information.
• Include Calls to Action. If you are promoting products, make sure the user knows where they can purchase, let them know where to find your other social channels or website.
Content Tips for Monetization
• Provide lots of value like solving specific problems
• Give the viewer a reason to come back to your channel. Let them know about a follow-up videos or new videos. Frequently publish new content on solving other problems. The more often a viewer come backs – the more revenue you’ll make.
• Ensure that all content is 100% yours! If you are using content that was created by somebody else (like music or graphics), that content might not be available to monetize on YouTube.
• Include Calls to Action. Monetization CTA’s should revolve around building your subscribers or total views. Subscribers and views are how you generate revenue.
Video Length Versus Efficiency
Longer Videos
1. Have the potential to earn more money. If you create longer videos, YouTube can sometimes squeeze 2 advertisements in that video increasing your monetization.
2. Engage more. The more you engage your audience, the more they will hear your voice, see your brand, and hopefully remember you more.
3. Risk irritating users. The trend for all social media platforms seems to “faster” and YouTube viewers are not exception. They want to find answers to their problems as quickly as possible. If an answer should take 30 seconds and you take 15 minutes – do you think that viewer is going to come back and watch more of your videos?
Shorter Videos
1. Efficient use of time. If you can solve someone’s problems in seconds, that viewer will probably be impressed and that increases your chances of a like, share, or subscriber to your channel.
2. You’ll earn less revenue. Shorter videos can not run as many advertisements which in turn earns you less money, however, if you’re able to solve your viewers problems quickly you may gain subscribers and engagement quicker.
3. Less irritating. If viewers watch you’re videos and your quick to the point without the fluff then typically they appreciate that. Many viewers will subscribe to your content knowing in advance that you don’t mess around.
